City Conducts Stunting Risk Data Profiling for Handling Malnutrition

Reducing stunting is an important issue that has received serious attention from the Central Government. Because of this, the Jakarta Provincial Government is working hard to reduce the stunting/malnutrition rate, one of which is by profiling (recording and mapping) stunting risk data. This step is expected to sharpen the direction of intervention in the stunting management program in Jakarta.

Shortly, samples will be determined to ensure that the data in Carik Jakarta

The statement above was conveyed by Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono when he chaired a limited meeting regarding the follow-up of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's direction regarding extreme poverty of 0 percent and reducing stunting below 14 percent by 2024 at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (1/30).

"Shortly, samples will be determined to ensure that the data in Carik Jakarta, which is already connected to the BKKBN, is on target. If the sample is correct, it will be profiled for handling stunting, as well as extreme poverty," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

BKKBN Main Secretary, Tavip Agus R added stunting risk profiling is needed to prevent stunting.

“It aims to find people who are at risk of stunting. Why is this important? Because it is more effective to prevent people who are at risk of stunting than those who are already stunted. Medically, it is also more effective in preventing," he said.

He also explained that the stunting risk profiling was carried out by synchronizing existing data in Carik Jakarta which had been connected to BKKBN's Family Information System (SIGA) data.

BKKBN also continues to update data to meet the need for up-to-date family data and information according to conditions in the field which will be used by internal and external BKKBN (ministries/agencies, universities, and other partners) for program planning, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation, evaluating Bangga Kencana program, accelerating stunting reduction, and eradicating extreme poverty, as well as other development programs.

In 2024, the President targets to reduce the stunting rate by 14 percent through a prevention approach.

“The closest thing is prevention during the bride and groom phase, during pregnancy, and during the first 1,000 days of life. Earlier, the conclusion was conveyed by the Acting Governor, shortly, we will determine samples to ensure that the data in Carik is already connected to the data in BKKBN, thus the target is right. If the sample is correct, it will be profiled later. Because there will be a connection between handling extreme poverty and stunting," he explained.

Especially, the data could be used to assist the Jakarta Provincial Government, which has been distributed to many Jakarta residents. From the amount of assistance that has been given to the community, he emphasized that there should not be extremely poor people.

“Because people in Jakarta have been intervened with various existing assistance schemes. This is exactly why the root of the problem is being sought. Thereby, later from profiling in the field, hope can be found," he explained.

Based on the profiling data, it would become the basis for the Acting Governor to coordinate with Central Government, Home Ministry Kemendagri), Health Ministry, Central Statistics Agency (BPS), BKKBN, and other related ministries/institutions.

Jakarta Development Planning Board (Bappeda) Head, Atika Nur Rahmania added that Jakarta was focused on how to make appropriate interventions in a short time by setting targets to deal with reducing stunting and extreme poverty.

"Directions regarding the handling of stunting are of course setting the right target data. Thus, we can do proper profiling of the stunting data itself. Then from this profiling, we can intervene more precisely on these targets," she explained.

This approach taken was of course preventive. For residents who have been identified, a curative approach will be carried out.

"In the national strategy itself, it has also been determined which names are sensitive and there are also several targets that must be intervened. So, the point is together we agreed to sharpen the direction of intervention for stunting management programs," she stated.
